Halfling Dancer

Or hobbit. Whichever's less likely to get me sued.

Farine Five Roses

I had a photo of the mill as well as the sketch so I tried tossing some colours on.

Big Nose, Small Eyes

I was idly sketching in a meeting trying to design some characters with small eyes and big noses.

After Sleazy Romeo I went off on a mask tangent, hence the kid.

Sketchcrawl 18 - New Jacket

I need to get back into pencil crayons one of these years. More art from Sketchcrawl -- I got one of those rainbow hippie sweaters and I LOVE IT goddamn it. It is the best sweater ever.

Sketchcrawl 18 - Transcend

Went on Sketchcrawl last Saturday. Only got a few sketches done but I didn't do much all day other than run errands. It's hard to go on Sketchcrawl in the middle of winter.

Anyway, the display case at the coffee shop where we hang out Saturday morning.

And next week: it's Hourly Comic Day again!

Figure Drawing - 4

20 minute pose. I think this was the best pic out of the session.

Figure Drawing - 1

Over the next few days I'll be posting stuff from last Wednesday's figure drawing class. This one was a 10-minute pose.

Water Mage - Colours

She dives in the depths searching for drowned men's souls.

(I wish I'd thought of that earlier, I'd have probably made a slightly different pic.)

Water Mage

I went to figure drawing yesterday so I have some stuff to post. Unfortunately it must wait until I'm home during daylight hours because I can't take decent photos otherwise. So here's something I sketched up in the meantime:

Texture

Another portrait from the same thread as the last one. This expression was just too good. :)

Caricature

A caricature of someone on the CA forums for the Draw What Everyone Looks Like thread.

It was a good photo. I'm trying another one but it's not looking quite right yet.

Palace of Science and Culture

Digital painting from this lovely stock photo.

I needed to practice some architecture and this caught my eye partly because the colours are so great and partly because I saw the building myself a few years ago when I was in Warsaw. The locals think it's an eyesore (it was a "gift" from the Soviet Union) but I kinda like it. :)

Aboyt 2.5 hours in Photoshop.

Son of Montreal People

Forgot to post this pic from Montreal. There's a few others as yet unscanned that should go up one of these months.

Bunulon

Not a Christmas ornament at all. I just got this urge to make some clay bunnies vaguely based on the ones from The Atrox comic and this guy turned out surprisingly well.

I ripped the head off my Edna the Witch model to make him. I almost never sculpt so I am completely delighted with how he turned out. I'm planning to make and paint some Sculpey bunulons and then maybe some mushrooms. For the present he's sitting on Neil's amp.

Butterfly Ornament

One last ornament, painted this year.

I have some nice intarsia ones too, but they are quite a bit more simple and don't display much in the way of painting technique. Maybe I'll take some more photos when I take them all down.

Ornaments 2

More painted Christmas ornaments. I did the partridge (quail?) this past Christmas and the stars were from Christmas 2009. I am particularly fond of the chicken.

Christmas Ornaments

My friend's mom does woodworking and every year she has a few of us girls over for an ornament painting party. This year I thought I'd take some photos of the ones I've finished. I tend to take a few liberties with the designs, which are all out of woodworking crafts books.

2011

Starting 2011 off with foot studies.

From random stock photos on dA.

I'm reasonably happy with 2010 in that I managed to make more blog posts than in 2009. My New Year's resolutions this year are to top 2010 for sketchblogging, buy a Cintiq and make $1000 off my art.

CHOW 224 - Harajuku Warrior

The final for the Harajuku Warrior.

Ah, well. Could have pushed this a bit further with a few more days but isn't that the way it always goes?

Masked Girl

Pen on scrap paper. Something based on some pose I saw on CA.

Death's Familiar

Mmm. Flying bat monkeys. Of death.

It was a COW topic a couple weeks ago, and I was bored at the pub.

Cat Gesture Sketches

I used to be fairly good at cats, but I haven't drawn them in a long time. Some quick cat gesture sketches from random dA photos.

Harajuku Warrior CHOW

Chow 224 - design a Harajuku-style teen who street-fights at night! (Harajuku's the area of Tokyo where teenagers go to show off crazy fashion.) This is my rough (about an hour's worth of pushing pixels around):

I've been on CA for 2 years now and sometimes I'm amazed at how much I've improved. Compare this with my first CHOW entry.

Final should be up on Sunday!

Barbarella Final

I knew when I first saw you on the showroom floor
You were made for me
I took you home and dressed you up in polyester
Princess of my dreams

Now that this is done maybe I can stop listening to Electric Barbarella on repeat.

CHOW 223 - Barbarella Sketch

I apologize in advance to everyone not expecting cheesecake. Next post: the finished product.

(I had to take a stab at a Barbarella redesign. Sexy kitsch is just so much fun. I probably ought to do Rocky Horror at some point to balance things out.)

Flower War

Just a weird sketch I did today.

Turned out a bit dull but I didn't want to put any more time into it.

Moo Too

November 1st was International Self-portrait Day!

Catwoman

Saw someone's catwoman inks on dA and started wondering how I'd draw her. Here's an answer, I guess!

Future Hair

Someone else from yesterday's Gaga sketching spree:

Reminds me a bit of Finder.

Trans

I'm supposed to be doing comics but I'm having a pretty slow weekend, what with the dinners and the birthday and the friends and the trick or treaters. So I spent an hour listening to Lady Gaga videos and sketching whatever popped out on the page.

Back to comics tomorrow, I guess.

POW Panel

Last page I'm doing for POW.

I'm going to be posting the pages on my DeviantArt account starting today. So by next week sometime you should be able to see the whole thing. It's a story fragment right now, it might get a proper ending sometime between now & then.

Meeting Sketches

Just experimenting with weird people shapes.

Zombie Me

Probably won't get to finish this CHOW on time since I've still got two POW (Panels of the Week) pages to clean up and I'm going out to dinner tomorrow and Saturday, but I'm going to have to finish this one up sometime because hey -- it's not every day you get to be undead.

Aah, I had a great idea for a Hallowe'en costume this year but I don't own quite enough things to pull it off. I was going to go as an anime catgirl, put a big stack of manga on my desk and "desu" at everybody at work all day. But the only anime t-shirt I own is this one and it's not exactly safe for work. And one ridiculous cat hat doesn't a catgirl make. Or hell, maybe it does! Maybe I should do it anyway.

Next year I'm going to get a fake beard and suspenders and go as a Bob. A Sysadmin Bob.

More Montreal People

On our last full day in Montreal we went to Tamtams, the gathering at Mont Royal Park where people play the drums, dance, juggle, conduct mock battles, make out on the grass and have a good time in general. I had a fun time dancing even though the heat and humidity were downright nasty and Neil was inexplicably disgruntled by the whole thing.  I have never had a pair of jeans actually be stuck to my legs before.

Anyway, I sketched a few people while I was there.  Here's a dancer, a juggler and a vendor of hippie equipment.

Montreal People

A lady I saw in a mall in Montreal. It was rather difficult finding a place to sketch that had a decent view of either scenery or people that Neil would not get bored with rather quickly.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Sketchbook Page

Trying to get that commission finished up, then comic strips, then I'll be finishing that POW submission.

In the meantime, have some random sketches!

RPG Character

I started tabletop gaming up again a few months ago. I'm playing a priestess who's very short on charisma.
