I think I forgot to scan this one. It's been sitting in my sketchbook. I think I should do something with it... but I think it needs a different camera angle, something a little more challenging.
I often do scenes in the medium camera angle, and I think it comes from making comics, where the temptation is always there to be lazy and do a lot of close-ups so you can avoid drawing a complicated environment 500 times. Now I just need to break out of my same-plane prison and then I'll be set.

Pumpkin Cat
I've done a couple greeting card designs with these odd little cartoon cats.
I dunno. Half the time I feel unproductive, and the other half of the time I'm working on things I can't show off here.

Journal - SUB
I have discovered the warmest room on campus, and it is the SUB quiet room. Here's a view from one of its windows.
I'm kind of looking forward to spring, when I can draw things that aren't at the U of A.

Journal - Japanese Maple
This was a Japanese maple in the Temperate Pyramid. I loved the shape of the branches. I dug up a fat Staedtler from the bottom of my bag, but I wonder if this wouldn't have looked better with the brush pen.

Journal - Muttart Feature Pyramid
I went on a sketch outing to the Muttart Conservatory. Got there, paid the entry fee, sat down, realized I had taken all of my usual sketching pens out of my pencil case. So I had to sketch with my brush pens and pencil crayons.
The Feature Pyramid, which changes its display every couple of months, had a lovely bulb and azalea display going. It smelled gorgeous! And it would have been so restful if everyone and their kids wasn't there. Next time I go on Wednesday morning or something.

Surreal
I did this a while back. I was experimenting with surrealism. It's kind of weird that a lot more of my traditional work isn't surreal. My sketchbook is often full of strange things put together in strange ways. I can think of an awful lot of surreal stuff. It doesn't necessarily need to be very realistic in rendering. So why don't I do it more? I don't know.
This one isn't quite done, which is why I hadn't posted it before. It's acrylic on watercolour paper. I think I quite like the bottom half.
I've had to put paintings aside for a bit while I work on children's illustration, but yesterday I started work again on a colorful abstract. I might have to work on painting again on weekends. It would be good to have some neat things to sell at Artwalk this year.

Journal - Humanities
It's really not much of a sketchcrawl if it only lasts a couple hours. I was still feeling productive after lunch, so I went to Humanities to see what was there. I like the banners. I got a used book at the book sale, and discovered a hare sleeping near the bike racks. It was a good Sketchcrawl.

Journal - Sculptures
I just couldn't get behind the HUB sketchcrawl. I'm in HUB like... once a week anyway. So I circled around some of the surrounding buildings looking at stuff I don't usually get to look at. This was a sculpture display in the Fine Arts Building.

Journal - Planter
From this month's Sketchcrawl. I was going to sketch the giant aloes they had in the pedway between HUB Mall and Rutherford Library, but they were removed. Instead the planters were filled with ordinary tropical plants, but some of the planters had plaster heads in them.
See, this is why I support public art. I don't want to live in a world without weird surprises.
