A view of one of the corners of Triffo Hall from the main floor of CAB at the University of Alberta.  I like the brickwork.  There were quite a few magpies flying about and I hoped that one would stop long enough for me to include it, but no such luck.

This month the Urban Sketchers group went to the Mercer Market, a new craft market that will run once a month.  There was some nice stuff there.  I really liked this dress, but I came home with cake balls.

Part 2 of my super-not-at-all-exciting day.  Why didn't Hourly Comic Day happen on the 31st?  A ton of exciting things happened to me on Thursday.  For one thing I went to see the gynecologist.  That would have made an exciting comic.

Garden Reader - Rough

I've been working on a few illustrations that I can't show off just yet, so in the meantime I'm going to post some roughs that I'm either idly working on or that didn't make the cut.

With this one I was sitting around and thinking "I should just draw some stuff I *like*".  So this illustration combines my love for fat chairs, books, gardens, socks and hot beverages.

Journal - Baskets

Went sketching at the Museum at Enterprise Square.  Expected to get more done, but I was informed that sketching with pens is not allowed in the museum.  I had brought my pencil crayons, which was lucky, but I didn't bring a sharpener.  Also it was so dim there that I could not tell which darker colour was which.  I'm amazed the sketches turned out even this well.

All in all, a disappointing excursion.

Goldberry

A late Christmas present for a friend who is a Tolkien fan.  Pen & ink, 7.5x9.5".  Now that I have the new transfer technique down, I'll probably be doing more work like this to sell at Artwalk.

I'm pretty happy with it. :)

I used one of Faestock's gorgeous gown photos as reference for the folds.

From the January Urban Sketchers Sketchcrawl, at the Strathcona Antique Mall.  These antique shoes were so beautiful, in gold patterned satin.  I wasn't the only one admiring them.

I went on the January Sketchcrawl with the local Urban Sketchers.  This time we went to the Strathcona Antique Mall, a warehouse of junk and treasures.  I was very tempted to buy this silk kimono robe.  The price was right, but the fit wasn't.

I brought it home as a sketch instead.

Christmas Ornament - Goblins

This is the goblin snowman ornament.  It's not quite done.  I think it might need a touch-up and some varnish.  I didn't get around to painting the singing ratsies this year, they'll have to wait until next year.

Christmas Ornament - Elf Lady

The elven lady ornament, all painted up.  It was designed by me and cut out by Jean, my friend's mom, who is a wonderful woodworker.  She has several lovely intarsia pieces in her home that I would love to steal away, made with her own hands. 

I ended up choosing green because I pulled out a lovely forest green out of the Bin o' Paints.  I was very proud of how this ornament turned out, but as Jean pointed out the green is the same colour as the Christmas tree and the lady is completely camouflaged among the branches.  In future years I think she will have to hang in my bathroom.
